When Doubts Crowd Your Mind

Happy Labor Day Sunday guys & gals!

I hope you all have had an excellent weekend and, thankfully, it isn’t over yet!!

God’s blessing on safe travels for anyone out and about this weekend.

Today we are thankful for:

1) grandparents!! Today Gram and Poppa Bilitz came to our house :) We ate pizza, watched the Brewer’s, and they didn’t even mind when I fell asleep on the couch!

2) Henry James!! I’m easily annoyed with my puppy but I try not to take him for granted. At the end of the day, my favorite time is being curled up on the couch with a good book and Henry snuggled up on my lap!

3) Jesus!! (As per usual) This week we are especially thankful for Jesus being the Light of the World! He’s our refuge when the darkness of doubts cloud our minds.

Doubts. Let’s not sugar coat it; doubts absolutely suck! Sadly, they tend to come every single day whether we want them or not.

The definition of doubt reads as follows:

Noun

a feeling of uncertainty or lack of conviction

Verb

To feel uncertain about

To fear; to be afraid

What is your biggest fear? Whether it be irrational or not everyone seems to be afraid of something. For example, I’m afraid of contortionists. I could not give you an explanation as to why I’m so afraid of them… but they TERRIFY me! (To the point that I would have to leave the room if they came on a TV show!)

So I’ll ask you again… what is your biggest fear? You don’t have to tell me what it is, but just think about it. Maybe it’s being afraid of the dark… or that you aren’t good enough.

Fears are DOUBTS

If you are afraid that you aren’t enough… you are doubting yourself. BUT YOU ARE AMAZING!!!

If you are afraid of the dark… you’re doubting the safety of the room. When you flick your light switch off at night absolutely nothing changes about your room. But, when you lay there in bed, it’s easy for your mind to wander and imagine something spooky sitting in your closet.  THAT SEEMS SILLY!

But it’s not. Doubts are a very real thing even if they don’t make sense! They’re scary!!

My favorite line from the sermon today compares doubts to mushrooms.

I don’t know about you, but I HATE mushrooms (I’m also allergic to them… but that’s beside the point.) Which is very fitting because I hate having doubts as well.

Mushrooms grow best in dark places… aren’t doubts the same? When we are in a dark and emotional place our doubts tend to grow, thrive, and ambush our minds.

When we have doubts, we have to show them the light. The Light of the World to be precise.

JESUS

IS

ALWAYS

THE

ANSWER!!!

No, he may not be the answer to that insanely hard problem in pre-calc, but he is the BEST answer for problems we have in our daily lives.

Do you remember having experiments in science class? When you have to do the same thing over changing one variable every time? What remained?

The constant. A constant doesn’t change during an experiment.

Doubts will come and doubts will go. But one thing always remains.

Jesus. He is our constant

Romans 8:32

He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Songs for the day:

I Have This Hope - Tenth Avenue North

An excellent reminder that Jesus is always there when doubts crowd your mind.

God is Bigger than The Boogie Man - VeggieTales

A little childish, I know, but this silly song fits PERFECTLY with our talk of fears and doubts! It probably isn’t the first time I’ve referenced it and it definitely won’t be the last.

Things to work on this week:

1) TRACK WORKOUTS START THIS WEEK. I might die. I haven’t worked out since the season ended. Please pray for me.

2) Making dinner! I cooked supper a couple of times this summer but I would like to try to do it more often because it isn’t my mom’s favorite thing to do.

3) Remembering to always always ALWAYS look to the Lord when life gets a little tough.

I hope this week is super duper fun for each and every one of you!

Sharing my love for Jesus and His love for you!
